Brent geese are a small migratory goose who spend their time in search of the cold weather, migrating between Arctic Canada, Iceland and Ireland.
We are lucky that they choose our western shores as one of their migration spots during the Irish winter months of October through to March. This painting is from a photo I took one day, walking on Ross Beach in Killala, County Mayo. The composition just draws you in and you get a sense of wanting to follow them! They seem just so busy going nowhere, and were completely oblivious to my crazy spaniel and me!
The cold weather which the geese search the world for is felt through the icy tones I have used for both the sea and the sky.
